Hospital ward

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT), the part of the NHS that runs all the hospitals in Leeds, are to provide a new alert system for autistic patients. If you are autistic and live in the Leeds area, you can have a “flag” on your system that lets doctors and nurses know that you are autistic.

You can then choose if you want this flag to be attached to your electronic notes. When hospital staff see this alert, it prompts them to ask if you require any reasonable adjustments and if you have a hospital passport they can look at.

The hospital passport can also be added to your electronic patient file. The Lead Nurse for Learning Disabilities and Autism is happy to discuss this with you in more detail if you would like more information.

How they work

The autism flag looks like this. If you have one and are admitted to any NHS hospital in Leeds, this will come up on that hospital’s system.
