To mark Autism Acceptance Week and the start of Autism Acceptance Month, Leeds Autism AIM and Yorkshire Autism AIM are running an online discussion. It asks what your idea of an autistic-friendly utopia would be.
The discussion will look at different settings and areas of life, including:
- Workplaces
- Housing
- Transport
- Education
- Public spaces
- Healthcare
- Online spaces
Building a manifesto
At the end of the discussion, we will put together a manifesto. This is a document that will use suggestions from the group, saying what an autistic-friendly society would look like. It will be published on our website at some point in April.
The group and manifesto are part of our plans for Autism Acceptance Month. We celebrate it as many people in the wider autistic community celebrate that instead of Autism Awareness Month.
For more information on why, our Peer Development Worker Gill did a presentation about it: https://leedsautismaim.wordpress.com/2018/04/27/autism-acceptance-talk-slides-available/
When is the group?
It takes place on Tuesday 29th March from 6pm-7:30pm. It will be on Zoom and is free to attend. To take part, you must be an autistic adult (aged 18 and over) living in the Leeds area.
If you are interested in joining, please email us at [email protected] or sign up to our Online Groups mailing list at this link: http://eepurl.com/ha8X5D. We will send you the Zoom details the day before the group starts.
