Carers Leeds

Early next month, Carers Leeds are to hold an information session on the Mental Capacity Act. The free event will cover how the Act applies to carers, parents and partners, as well as the person they care for.

The session will be delivered by two guest speakers – Dr Alison Stansfield, Consultant Psychiatrist with the Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) and Christian Walsh, Development and professional Lead for Leeds Adult Social Care. It will cover the following questions:

  • What does ‘mental capacity’ mean?
  • As a carer, how do I know if the person I care for has mental capacity to make decisions about themselves?
  • Who decides if a person has mental capacity?
  • What can I do if I disagree with a decision about the mental capacity of the person I care for?

The session will come with a complimentary light lunch and a slot for questions after the session has finished. Please note that this session is for carers only.

The session is on Tuesday 6th February from 10am to 12pm. The venue is to be confirmed, but attendance is free.
