After launching our autistic-led Gaming Group on the Discord app late last month, we have more details about how the group will work. It will be monitored by one of our autistic staff members weekly and will combine live streams of playing games and discussion channels for text chat.
Monthly gaming slot
On the fourth Tuesday of every month, we will be running a session where people in the Gaming Group can stream the games they are playing.
These can be on any console that can connect to the Discord app. The game will be chosen by members of the group. Each session will be from 5pm to 6pm. The next session is on Tuesday 22nd September.
Discussion channels
In addition to the streaming, our Discord server has a number of different chat channels that you can go into and out of. They are:
- Board games
- Video games
- RPGs (Role-Playing Games)
- Consoles
- Films
There is also a Gaming Group channel for the streams, a help channel if you have any questions about using Discord and a General channel for general chat and introducing yourself to the other group members.
How to access Discord
Discord can be accessed by downloading the app on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. However, the recommended way to access our Discord server is by downloading their app on your platform (e.g. PS4, android etc) that will be used to access the server.
Although Web browsers can access Discord, they may not support some of the services like video chat or game streaming.
Arranging your own gaming
In addition to that, you can also arrange to play games with other group members on Discord. If you do this through the AIM group, please note that we have no responsibility for anything bad that could happen if you arrange gaming sessions yourself.
