As part of a week of online Pride events organised by Leeds-based charities, Leeds Autism AIM are putting together a video compilation. It aims to share stories of LGBTQ+ people in the Leeds area who are also neurodivergent.

Neurodivergent conditions include:

  • Autism (including diagnoses of Asperger’s Syndrome)
  • Dyslexia
  • Dyspraxia
  • Dyscalculia
  • ADHD
  • Tourette’s Syndrome

The video will run for up to an hour and will feature stories from neurodivergent LGBTQ+ people talking about their experiences. The stories will also go over how their neurodivergence ties in with their sexuality and/or gender identity and how they fit in with the wider LGBTQ+ community.

Its aim is to ensure that neurodivergent LGBTQ+ people’s voices are heard. Most of Leeds Autism AIM’s staff team are both LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent.

Share your story

We are looking for contributions to the video from LGBTQ+ neurodivergent people living in the Leeds City Council area. They could be:

  • A video clip of you, either telling your story or sharing something creative like a poem or song about being LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent
  • An audio clip of you doing the above
  • A piece of writing e.g. a poem or short story, that we can turn into a slide to put in the video

If you would like to contribute, please email your video clip, audio clip or piece of writing to us by email at [email protected]. If you would like to be credited, please also send your first name and preferred pronouns so we can introduce your part of the video compilation.

The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 4th August at 5pm.

When will it be shown?

The finished video will be shown online on Friday 7th August at 12 Noon. It will be hosted on Leeds Autism AIM’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/leedsautismaim/

After the event, we will put the video on Leeds Autism AIM’s YouTube channel.
