During this festive period, there will be some changes to bus, train and air travel in Leeds. In this guide, we will be sharing information on when public transport will be running.

Buses in Leeds

A weekday or Saturday timetable will run for most services on Monday 22nd-Tuesday 23rd December. On Christmas Eve (Wednesday 24th December), most bus services will be running to a weekday timetable until 6pm before stopping completely after 8pm.

There will be no buses running on Christmas Day (Thursday 25th December). On Boxing Day (Friday 26th December), special services will operate – there is a timetable here: Boxing Day Bus Services

Services will operate as normal on Saturday 27th-Sunday 28th December. There will be a Saturday service on Monday 29th-Tuesday 30th December. For New Year’s Eve (Wednesday 31st December), there will be a Saturday service on most routes until 6pm, with no services after 8pm.

There will be no bus services running on New Year’s Day (Thursday 1st January 2026). On Friday 2nd January 2026, services will run to either a weekday or Saturday timetable. A summary of this information is on the West Yorkshire Metro website.

Trains in Leeds

Services from Northern, TransPennine Express, CrossCountry and LNER will not be running on Christmas Day (Thursday 25th December) or Boxing Day (Friday 26th December). On Christmas Eve, services in our area will stop running completely at 8pm.

Most services will start later than normal on Saturday 27th December. On New Year’s Eve (Wednesday 31st December), they will end earlier than usual, stopping completely by 8pm. They will start later than normal on New Year’s Day (Thursday 1st January 2026).

During the whole festive season, there will be disruption on Northern services between:

  • Leeds and Manchester Victoria / Wigan Wallgate via Dewsbury
  • Leeds and York
  • Leeds and Selby
  • Leeds and Bradford Interchange via Dewsbury
  • Blackpool North and York, via Bradford Interchange
  • Halifax/Leeds and Selby/Hull, via Bradford Interchange

TransPennine Express’s services will also be disrupted, particularly services going via Huddersfield due to works on the station and engineering works around Mirfield on Monday 23rd December.

From Saturday 27th December to Friday 2nd January 2026, services between Leeds and York and Leeds and Selby will be amended due to engineering works. More information on changes to TransPennine Express’s service is here: Bank Holiday Information – TransPennine Express
