In the Leeds City Council area, bin collection days for some people will change as normal collection days may fall during Bank Holidays. Here, we have useful information on those, as well as post collection and delivery dates during the festive period.
Bin days in Leeds
Collections of grey bins (general waste) and green bins (recycling) will only not take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day during the festive period. To make sure everyone’s bins are collected around this time, days will change from Christmas Eve, with those scheduled to have a collection on Christmas Day getting one on Christmas Eve instead.

Collections will return to normal from Monday 8th January 2024. You should receive a leaflet with seasonal bin days listed on it in the post.
Brown bins – garden waste
From Saturday 2nd December until the spring of next year, brown bin collections will be paused for the winter.

If you are unsure about when your next bin collection day is, you can check by either:
- Visiting the Leeds City Council website and typing in your postcode to check the next Green, Grey and Brown Bin collection dates, or
- Downloading the Leeds Bins App, which will make it easier to know when your bin days are. This is available for iOS and Android devices
Latest posting dates
If you need to post a parcel or letter before Christmas, the latest dates for each type of postage are as follows:
- Monday 18th December – 2nd Class, 2nd Class Signed For, Royal Mail Tracked 48**
- Wednesday 20th December – 1st Class, 1st Class Signed For, Royal Mail Tracked 24**
- Thursday 21st December – Special Delivery Guaranteed
- Friday 22nd December – Special Delivery Guaranteed (Guaranteed Saturday delivery for an extra fee)
**Please note that Royal Mail Tracked 48 and 24 are not available to buy at Post Office branches
