Leeds Autism AIM will be holding a stall at #BiggerAndBetterInLeeds, the annual autism awareness/acceptance event. Taking place next Monday, the event will feature 25 other stalls, as well as a couple of guest speakers.
Author, activist and performance poet Janine Booth will be first on, talking about the subject of autism and employment. Her talk will discuss the topic of employment rights, as well as her book, Autism Equality in the Workplace.
The second speaker is Anna Kennedy OBE, a mother, speaker and charity founder. Anna’s talk will be about her experience in setting up a school for autistic children and as a mother to two kids on the spectrum.
Stalls galore
Also on the day, there will be an opening address from Helen Gee, Leeds City Council’s autism commissioning lead. She will be joined on stage by Lord Mayor Gerry Harper, who will open the event with a speech to celebrate autism awareness and acceptance.
Just over two dozen stalls for autism charities and services in Leeds will be present. Alongside ourselves, you’ll see a few groups we work in partnership with. These include Carers Leeds, Chapeltown Citizens Advice Bureau, the DWP and Aspiedent.
Services for both children and adults will be present on the day. Adults’ services will be upstairs, with kids’ services located downstairs.
Times and venue
#BiggerAndBetterInLeeds is on Monday 3rd April from 9.30am to 3pm. It will be in the Banqueting Suite of Leeds Civic Hall. We’ll be at stall number 16 on the first floor.
